Is Robinhood's GME stock token a real GameStop share?

No. A Robinhood Stock Token is a tokenized debt security issued by Robinhood Assets (Jersey) Limited that tracks the share price; it carries no votes or legal ownership, is not offered to US persons, and is redeemed in cash through authorised participants, though Vlad Tenev said on 14 September 2026 that in-kind redemption and voting are coming.

What a holder has today: a secured, limited-recourse debt note issued by Robinhood Assets (Jersey) Limited, an economic claim that tracks the share. Robinhood says each token is backed one for one by a share held by a US broker-custodian. Holders do not own the share, cannot vote it, and redeem in cash through authorised participants; the tokens are not offered in the United States or to US persons.

On 14 September 2026 Vlad Tenev said in-kind redemption and voting are coming. Separately, the SEC's 17 September 2026 exemption covers real tokenized shares only. AMC's CEO asked in September whether the shares backing the tokens can be lent to short sellers; a breakdown of the AMC series terms says lending is permitted, and Robinhood had not answered publicly as of mid-September 2026. Nothing here is financial advice.
